Morfa Nefyn, North Wales

Project from early January last year.  Our clients builder had already done the majority of  the groundwork which we adjusted slightly to accommodate larger paving units.  We had some help from local boys Dewi and Erick.

This project was in Morfa Nefyn, North Wales which is a lovely part of the country.   The setts we used were reclaimed from the North West of England which were laid over 100 years ago.  In a bizarre twist of fate these setts were originally from a quarry just a few miles away in Trevor.   This particular quarry is famous for its fine granite and supplies the top Scottish teams with their curling stones.  The quarry sent its granite from Trevor Harbour  originally to all points around the UK and Ireland and then World wide.

It is always a pleasure to use reclaimed granite setts, even more so when we are bringing them back home.

Bands going down first.

Gulley pot with silt trap.

North Wales is famous for its Slate quarries, so it was only fitting that we should use Welsh slate for the Gulley.

Looking good in situ.

We have dished the setts 75mm to centre of gully as this area is intended to be used for washing cars and boats.

Squaring off now.

Cutting in where the two sections meet.

That's the dish section complete.

Now its time to move onto next pattern, which is to be "European Fan"

This particular pattern is very popular, so much so that I had my own frames made.   I first had the idea to get a frame made as the old way involved having string lines everywhere and with my size 11's I was tripping all over the place.  So, not only do the frames improve the Health & Safety on site they are far more efficient way of working and the result is near perfect fans everytime.  Of course they all still need to be tapped in and levelled etc, but it is a great improvement.

First one going in.

For added definition we have highlighted the outer of the fans with grey silver setts.

Despite the rain every day everything is going well.

Working our way to gate entrance.

As you can see, the weather is terrible but there is worse to come.  Forecasted is the worst storm in 100 years heading our way.

You can really see the difference in colours now.

12th feb 2014 we had to leave site as we were only a mile away from the 110 mph wind recorded on the Nefyn peninsula.

Luckily this fell into the garden.

Hurricane force winds gone, it is back to work.  We now have the gate in sight.

Looking at the setts from eye level.

Fans completed, now time for straight coarsework setts.

Resetting the gate post, not the easiest of jobs as it is so large and mega heavy.

Coarsed work done, including ducting for the electric gates.

View to side.

Client requested the driveway entrance for property next door also be paved as it improves the overall look.

Topped up ready for two part resin from Gtfk black basalt.

Nearly done now.

Brushing off.

This is one of our smaller scale projects totalling 75m2, for a client who himself is a building contractor.

Not as much prep needed so we can dive straight in.
Setts are laid out for ease of working.

All setts now laid ready for 2 part resin from Cowley stone supplies.

Topped up with slurry ready for resin.
